This is my first year as the Learning Resources Teacher (aka the teacher- librarian) here at Matthew Elementary but I have had the privilege of teaching (and learning) at this terrific school for over 25 years now! Needless to say, I have enjoyed watching many children grow and learn!
My experiences in the classroom run from teaching Kindergarten all the way up to being a Grade 8 Social Studies teacher. However, I have spent the majority of my time in the classroom as a Grade 5 teacher, a position I still get to enjoy on a part-time basis!
During my teaching, I have championed a love of reading in all my students. (It IS the key to success!) And so I continue to read to students and for students.
As well, I have long been interested and active in pursing the purposeful use of technology across the curriculum, recently completing graduate work in this area. My own experiences as a teacher, parent and student have combined to build my enthusiasm for what is made possible by technology.
While how we read and write - communicate in general - has changed somewhat over time, we are still reading and writing! From time to time I will post here about what reading and writing involves as our students use the various information and communication technologies, or about some other related topic!
How we can work together to guide students in becoming fully literate in this digital age is a continued focus for the staff here at Matthew Elementary. If, in my new role, I can be of assistance in pursuing that goal, I will do so with delight!
